Kentucky high school football scoreboard: Friday night highlights & KHSAA scores - Week 6 (2024)

Week 6 is here and we'll have all the highlights and scores for you.

9:48 p.m. Remember what we said about rivalry games?

The Rocks are within one. As in one point. Hopefully none of the Trinity fans left the stadium early. May wanna circle back.

9:41 p.m. Talk about a statement game...

Manual just made that Oct. 8 tilt with St. X look even more appealing than it already was...provided St. X can stave off a Trinity comeback bid.

9:35 p.m. Comeback brewing?

Usually it's Trinity hanging with a team in the first half and getting overwhelmed in the second. But now, the reverse phenomenon seems to be in play. And there's plenty of time. Do the Shamrocks have a little rivalry magic in them?

9:07 p.m. Trinity-St. X Halftime Stats

For Trinity...

For St. Xavier...

9:02 p.m. Kinda shocked at this one...

8:58 p.m. In the words of our photographer Matt Stone...

We're giving the band some love tonight.

8:43 p.m. J.L. Kirven summarizes the rushing attack game plan...

8:37 p.m. St. X dominating

Gabriel Stovall's first week of picks included a Trinity upset. That's not looking too good right now. But St. X is.

8:34 p.m. Second half just like the first. Fireworks. Big plays.

8:31 p.m. Central's digging a whole for itself

8:24 p.m. Can KCD come back to stay unbeaten?

We're not at this one live, but it's just as important and impactful as the one's we're physically covering.

8:14 p.m. Our Jason Frakes called it...

8:08 p.m. St. X-Trinity

And the first big play of the game goes to the defense....

7:58 p.m. We'll just let this one speak for itself

7:54 p.m. Eastern aerial assault strikes first

While we're tracking Eastern's Pierce Humpich and his quest for cracking the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season, the Eagles are getting it done through the air early.

7:52 p.m. Manual creating some distance

Manual's been playing some inspired football. Perhaps trying to make a case for themselves as one of the best teams in the state.

7:48 p.m. A battle of the sack masters?

Ballard’s Jadarion Smith came into the game leading the state in sacks with 10.5. But it’s been Manual’s Deovante Curtis who’s been wreaking havoc in the opponent’s backfield.

7:40Northington's engine revving up

And if that happens, Ballard could be in for a long, long night. He didn't score here, but his big 20-yard run was definitely the precursor.

7:26 p.m. Yep, this is gonna be a good one...

Manual strikes back with a rather quick answer, and while everyone in the state is thinking Trinity-St. Xavier, this battle between 4-1 squads could become just as fun.

7:12 p.m. Ballard out of the blocks

Well, that didn't take long. The Bruins strike first and fast. Could this be the beginning of a track meet or a blowout?

Welcome to Week 6

It's Trinity-St. Xavier week, which means all (most) eyes will be on Cardinals Stadium as the state's most storied high school football rivalry kicks off its 89th edition. But that isn't the only gridiron action worth watching this week. Here's our list of the top five games in the Louisville area that may be of interest.

As always, you can follow our live blog to keep you abreast of all the Friday night lights action in the state's biggest games. But now, before kickoff, let's get you caught up on some of the past week's biggest and best stories.

How did Jason vote?:Check out Jason Frakes' ballot for The Associated Press high school football polls

If Trinity wins, would it really be an upset?

Yes, we know what the records say. Trinity (0-4) is off to its worst start in three years. Meanwhile, St. X (3-1) is ranked No. 2 in Class 6A and is revenge-minded after 2020 state champion Trinity shellacked the Tigers 48-10 last year. But Trinity is good, if inexperienced, despite the record. St. X has seemingly found its stride. But as we learned in last week's action, records and rivalries don't care about each other. So in summation, expectanythingfrom this game.

Take a peak at the AP's rankings:Who's No. 1 in this week's Associated Press high school football polls?

The year of the running back?

That's what it's felt like, honestly. A quick perusal of the state's rushing leader chart will show you that six running backs have a legit chance of cracking that coveted 1,000-yard season mark tonight. Let's take a quick look at them:

Pierce Humpich, Eastern: He's got 903 rushing yards and six scores through five games. He needs just 97 yards to crack the barrier. He's averaging 181 per game. He'll have a real shot at it against struggling North Bullitt.

Cole Wallace, Rowan County:Wallace is just three yards behind Humpich as far as total rushing yards go. He's got eight touchdown runs and is toting it for 180 yards per contest. Could be tough sledding though tonight against a strong Scott Eagles bunch.

Demarco Hopkins, Harlan County:Hopkins is tied with Graves County tailback, Clint McKee for tops in the state in rushing touchdowns (14). But Hopkins comes into this week with 895 yards — just 105 shy of the 1,000-yard mark. The Black Bears have a bye, so Hopkins will have to wait until next Friday at Letcher County to do his thing.

Logan Willis, Hanco*ck County:At 6-feet, 220 pounds, Willis is listed as a fullback. But the bruiser has amassed 838 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns so far this year. Could have a big night against winless Owensboro Catholic.

Davontaye Saunders, Eminence:Nobody in Kentucky is more explosive from a per-carry standpoint than Saunders with his ridiculous 15.7 yards per carry. He's already got 830 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, and with that per-carry average — and his 4.4 40-yard dash speed — he could easily crack 1,000 yards with the right amount of carries tonight against Switzerland County.

Do it again, Shawnee

Whenever you've gone seven years without winning a football game on the field, and then you finally win one, after the initial celebration, everybody's next question is, can you do it again? They'll get another chance tonight when they travel to Carroll County (2-0).But Shawnee's milestone win last week was such a major accomplishment, we're gonna pause on any of that conjecture right now because wejust want you to relive their special moment again. Plus, J.L. Kirven wrote a hell of a story.

Ouch, Christian Evangel

Amid all the good feels and rivalry vibes we've talked about this week, all the news wasn't good news. It'll be interesting to see how Christian Evangel bounces back from this.

Can we pick em?

Nobody should be surprised that our lead high school sports insider Jason Frakes leads our Courier Journal High School Pick 'Em standings. But he gets a new challenger this week. Check out our staff's Week 6 picks.
