'Tis the season for red carpet glamour, cringeworthy on-stage banter and touching speeches (sometimes cut off by cutthroatorchestras).
Awards season will unofficially kick off with the Golden Globes Sunday night, and culminate with the Oscars in late February, with some big nights and quirky, low-key ones in between.
Here's how to watch and what to expect from this year's awards shows.
Golden Globe Awards:
What it is: The Globes honor both television and movies at an annual (andinfamously boozy)party. The organization behind the awards is the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a nonprofit group of international journalists.
When and where to watch: 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, on NBC
Who's hosting: Sandra Oh, who had a stellar year with the thrilling BBC series "Killing Eve," and "SNL" alum and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star Andy Samberg.
Who's nominated: Unlike the Oscars, movies are broken into two categories: Drama and Musical or Comedy. A trio of films that were big at the box office — "A Star Is Born," "Black Panther," "Bohemian Rhapsody" — are all nominated for drama, along with Spike Lee's "Blackkklansman" and "If Beale Street Could Talk." In musical or comedy, the nominees are "Crazy Rich Asians," "The Favourite," "Green Book," "Mary Poppins Returns" and "Vice," which was nominated for the most awards of any film.
The leading TV nominee is "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story."

Screen Actors Guild Awards:
What it is: One of the fastest-moving awards shows of the season, the SAG Awards honorperformances in movies and TV.
When and where to watch: 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, on TNT and TBS
Who's hosting: Megan Mullally, best known as Karen from "Will & Grace"
Who's nominated: Unique to the SAG Awards is the fact that they honor not only individual actors but also ensembles. So, nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture are "A Star is Born," "Black Panther," "Blackkklansman," "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Crazy Rich Asians."
For TV, best ensemblein a drama nominees are "The Americans," "Better Call Saul," "The Handmaid's Tale," "Ozark," and "This is Us." For comedy, the ensemble nominees are "Atlanta," "Barry," "Glow," "The Kominsky Method" and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."

Screen Actors Guild Awards: The nominations' most shocking snubs
Grammy Awards
What it is: The Recording Academy's award is referred to by some as music's biggest honor. But it also recognizes spoken word and comedy.
When and where to watch: Sunday, Feb. 10, on CBS
Who's hosting: We don't know yet. James Corden has hosted the past two ceremonies, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him take the stage again. More exciting will be who's performing. The show has long been a showcase for some of the most fantastic (and most head-scratching) performances broadcast live. Remember Elton John and Eminem in 2001? Prince and Beyonce in 2014? How about Aretha Franklin's last-minute substitution for Luciano Pavarotti in 1998? That's what you're missing out on if you're not tuning in.
Who's nominated: There are 84 categories, so we'll keep this short. Up for Record of the Year, which honors the musician and producers and engineers, are "I Like It" by Cardi B,Bad Bunny and J Balvin; "The Joke" by Brandi Carlile; "This is America" by Childish Gambino; "God's Plan" by Drake; "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper; "All the Stars" by Kendrick Lamar and SZA; "Rockstar" by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage; and "The Middle" by Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey.
Film Independent Spirit Awards:
What it is: The Spirit Awards are the Oscars' hip younger sister. The Oscars are on a Sunday night, withstars walking the red carpet decked in millions in borrowed jewelry and stiff updos. The Spirit Awards are in a tent next to the Santa Monica Pier, with up-and-coming filmmakers sharing tables with celebrities with artfully undone hair. It's where movies without a blockbusterbudget — and often more daring than their mainstream competition — are honored.
When and where to watch:8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, on IFC
Who's hosting: Aubrey Plaza! The Delaware native is the perfect fit for the show that has, in the past, been hosted by everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to John Waters to Sarah Silverman to Kristen Bell. Plaza was part of the team that won last year's Best First Feature for "Ingrid Goes West," so she should feel right at home.
Who's nominated: Some are smaller films, some are more mainstream, so don't be surprised if you don't recognize all the nominees. Up for Best Feature are "Eighth Grade," "First Reformed," "If Beale Street Could Talk," "Leave No Trace" and "You Were Never Really Here."
Academy Awards (Oscars):
What it is: If you're reading this, you're familiar with the biggest night in Hollywood. TheAcademy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will congratulate itself for the 91st year with all the glamour viewers are used to.
When it is: Sunday, Feb. 24, on ABC
Who's hosting: Who knows? One of the most thankless jobs in Hollywood is still up for grabs as of when this was published. Kevin Hart was attached very briefly before some insensitive tweets surfaced and derailed his hosting duties.
Who's nominated: Hopes are high for box office hits like "Black Panther" and "A Star is Born," as well as the Alfonso Cuaron-directed "Roma," which was briefly released in theaters andis now available on Netflix. All three films figure prominently on experts' lists on GoldDerby, a website dedicated to awards predictions, as do "If Beale Street Could Talk," "Green Book," "The Favourite," "Blackkklansman" and "Vice."We'll find out what makes the cut when nominations are announced Tuesday, Jan. 22.
