Position Summary
- Assists in developing retail pricing strategies and monitors execution.
- Assists in creating fuel volume and margin goals and manages the fuel business to ensure that goals are achieved.
- Assists operations team on all fuels related issues.
- Oversees all fuels marketing components. Interacts with fuel carriers and distribution group.
- The Fuel Manager supports the company goals by focusing on personal accountability, customer service and work efficiency.
Essential Job FunctionsLeadership and Management
- Maintains petroleum products pricing function by analyzing current market conditions, sales volumes, costs, competitive prices and supply forecasts.
- Develops retail pricing strategies utilizing input from operations team and monitors implementation.
- Monitor and adjust site level fuel retails as needed, including some mornings, evenings, and weekend rotations.
- Meets volume and pricing goals by implementing pricing strategies; analyzing reactions to price changes; developing pricing tactics.
- Establishes retail fuel prices by determining relationships between change in price and profit; monitoring competitive reactions to price changes.
- Achieves pricing strategy goals of increased volume and profit by determining the relationship between pricing and volume, analyzing past sales performance, monitoring competitive pricing and cost data, sales budget, and projected sales. Presents recommendations to management.
- Develop and manage a database of key competitors that impact each location’s pricing strategies. Conduct periodic competitive survey updates.
- Create and submit daily, weekly and period fuel reports. Provide management with planning information by compiling and analyzing financial data from various sources.
- Interacts with carriers and distribution group and coordinates terminal deliveries to manage inventory demands and throughput requirements.
- Ensure accurate supply costs are calculated for each tender received based on contract agreements. This includes management of new contracts and price information necessary for the Fuels Accounting Department.
- Troubleshoots fuel shortages.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing Financial and Key Result Area targets pursuant to Company plan guidelines.
- Visit stores in assigned geography.
- Research and resolve customer issues as necessary to support Operations in all regions.
- Maintains fuel pricing software system.
- Attend meetings as requested by operations.
- Increases sales revenues by developing promotional concepts and overlay programs; assist in developing category plans.
- Assist in establishing and monitoring gross margins by forecasting and developing annual sales quotas; projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products and assists in determining fuel product placement and promotion.
- Projects and measures category sales and gross profit results by developing and maintaining records of item cost, retail and gross margin dollars.
- Maintains external vendor relations by providing direction, guidance and information.
- Recommends changes in products by evaluating results and competitive developments.
- Increases professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reading professional publications; establishing personal networks; or participating in professional societies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing Financial and Key Result Area targets pursuant to Company plan guidelines.
Training and Development
- Primary support to store managers and market managers on fuel category training and compliance.
- Provides counsel to operations team on retail pricing strategy development and execution.
- Provides counsel to operations team on forecourt equipment operations, retail pricing strategy, operations development, and execution.
Communication
- Requires ability to effectively communicate with operations team as a key fuels liaison.
- Successful implementation of fuels initiatives requires effective coaching and counseling skills.
Organizing and Planning
- Must be able to efficiently schedule and organize time to achieve uniform compliance of fuels goals.
Financial
- Optimize price /volume relationship when establishing retail pricing strategies.
- Requires basic understanding of business economics to recommend appropriate brand strategies and capital investments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, finance, business or other acceptable retail convenience/fuels and operations equivalent experience.
- Experience in the fields of fuel pricing, fuel marketing, fuel distribution, fuel transportation, and marketing.
- Must be able to set priorities, work independently and handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively work in a fast-paced and team environment.
- Must have advanced knowledge of Excel, and working knowledge of MS Access, Power Point, and Word.
- Requires strong analytical and quantitative abilities to work with large and complex datasets.
- Use of independent judgment in regard to laws relevant to particular situations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills needed.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to use his/her hands in order to handle or grasp items of varying weight. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with both hands and arms. The employee may also be required to:
- Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds from the ground to overhead
- Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds from the ground to waist
- Bend and twist at the waist
- Ability to push and pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds. (i.e. utilizing a hand truck).
- Ability to climb a ladder to store or retrieve materials, place and/or replace signage.
- Ability to stoop, squat, and kneel.
- Exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
- Ability to reach overhead to grab objects.
- Ability to operate computer keyboard for data entry.
- Ability to communicate (orally and in writing)
- This position requires operating a motor vehicle 50% of time
